Prayer Letter October 20, 2005

Dear Praying friends;

Amsterdam, Utrecht, MontFoort, Barcelona, La Garigga, Rome, Naples, Paris, Noisy La Grande, Claye, Malmedy, Liege, Fleuron, Warsaw, Lublin and Poznan; the list reads like an exotic European travel brochure. Six countries in 7 weeks has been the travel itinerary.

As you flip through our travel brochure what you will see are not the usual tourist traps, but something far more exotic and captivating. There are pictures of Churches, small groups and families. There are photos of tract distributions in Leadership in the church in RomeLa Garigga, and a literature hand out in a subway station in Rome; a grief seminar in a hotel in Noisy La Grande, a Japanese Church worshiping in the Netherlands, small group Bible studies and prayer clusters in various locations. There are other pictures of dinner conversations, counseling opportunities on walks and car drives and afternoons of visiting. You will see Dave preaching, Donna meeting with women over dish washing and food preparation, and both of them teaching seminars as they share the lives and hearts of our missionaries and their partners in the various locations listed in the brochure.

We are grateful for each of these meetings, conversations and prayer times. We have new and strengthened relationships in each place. We have seen the Lord lead us and use us to lift up heavy hearts, encourage developing ministries, interact with non-believers, advise families and individuals, and preach His Word.

We have traveled in Europe mostly by trains and logged a few days of 13-14 hours as we have criss-crossed the continent and developed a feel of what it is like to serve in a culturally rich, but spiritually dark region. Europe possesses a rich heritage of Christian ministry. Some of the world’s greatest theologians, evangelists, pastors and ministries were born on this continent. There is little evidence of their impact. There is little interest in the gospel of Christ. Our missionaries are working diligently to stir the few remaining coals and to add new fuel to the fire of the gospel. We feel honored and privileged to be their partners in the work of enlarging the influence of the gospel throughout Europe.

Thank you for praying with us. Thank you for helping us to serve those who spend themselves for the sake of the gospel in Europe.

We are both doing well physically and feel ourselves spiritually energized in our ministry and through it.

We are in Poland until October 26th, and fly to Karachi on October 29th where we will work with FEBInternational missionaries and their partners until November 24th. In addition to our planned work they have been asked to be available to help debrief and support those missionaries and relief workers who are helping those victimized by the recent earthquake in Pakistan. We are grateful that none of our missionaries were hurt. A couple of our missionaries have become involved in the relief work. You are probably aware of the growing death toll and that millions are now homeless with winter approaching.

Your fellow laborers for Christ’s glory, Dave and Donna Marttunen

Praise:

  1. Good health and energy.
  2. Good results in our ministry in Europe.

Prayer:

  1. That God would continue to use us in ministry in Europe and beyond.
  2. The God would give us energy and wisdom as we travel and serve in Pakistan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
  3. That we would find housing and furnishings as we settle January 1 in Victoria.
  4. That our director, fields and we ourselves would have wisdom in planning our travel for 2006.
